“During the first fit-check of my Sokol space suit in Baikonur, I had a chance to test my modest Jiujitsu skills…”
The prime crew continued their preflight preparations at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The main crew include Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka (commander), NASA astronaut Jessica Meir (flight engineer) and space flight participant Hazzaa Al Mansouri (UAE).
The Soyuz FG, carrying the Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft, in which Hazzaa AlMansoori, the first Emirati astronaut, will launch to the International Space Station, is emblazoned with the logo of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre and the UAE flag along with the flags of Russia and America in preparation for the historic mission.
“It is a wonderful feeling to witness the Space Station mission of Hazzaa Al Mansouri,” says reputed Egyptian-American space scientist and geologist Dr Farouk El-Baz.
We pray for Hazzaa’s success and his safe return home, tweets Sheikh Moahmed.
A crowd in Dubai erupted in cheers and applause on Wednesday as the first astronaut from the UAE launched towards the International Space Station (ISS), dubbing him a national hero.
Al Mansoori entered the history books as the first Arab astronaut in space when the Soyuz MS-15 carrying him alongside Russian commander Oleg Skripochka and Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir, docked with the International Space Station on Wednesday night.
"Seeing someone like Al Mansoori go up there makes me feel that he carries a part of my dream with him. Its hard to put this feeling into words so maybe by creating this picture of him is my way of thanking him for it. I’m proud of what he has accomplished," said Alapide.
