Double talent

Some of the world’s biggest singers have also managed to make successful careers for themselves in Hollywood’s acting scene. This week we are taking a look at stars who have appeared in films and television programmes, with some receiving major awards and nominations for their performances.

Dua Lipa made her film debut as Mermaid Barbie in the 2023 film “Barbie” and also contributed the hit song “Dance the Night” to its soundtrack. She later appeared alongside Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard in the action-comedy “Argylle.” Ariana Grande received an Oscar nomination for playing Glinda in “Wicked,” although she had already started her career in television before becoming a famous singer.

Selena Gomez is another star who began acting at a young age. She appeared on Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” and now stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in “Only Murders in the Building.” Harry Styles made his film debut in “Dunkirk” before taking on leading roles in “Don’t Worry Darling” and “My Policeman.”
