Inspiration for a Hollywood movie can come from literally anywhere and everywhere. The trend of taking inspiration from a book is nothing new, as we’ve witnessed through cinema over the years. This week we are taking a look at some of the worst book-to-film adaptations to ever be released.

Jojo Moyes is a hugely successful, award-winning romance author. In 2016, her novel “Me Before You” was made into a book and directed by Thea Sharrock. The film stars Emilia Clarke in the main role and sees her play a caretaker who looks after a paralysed man. A love story ensues and while the tale was hugely popular with the novel, it did not quite translate the same way with the movie. The film was given bad reviews by critics and audiences were not impressed either.

In the 1990s, author Louis de Bernières’s novel “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” became a hit with readers all over the world. In 2001, the book was turned into a film with director John Madden at the helm. Despite starring Nicolas Cage and Penélope Cruz, two huge Hollywood stars, the film did not do so well at the box office. The lack of success was blamed on the lack of chemistry between the two lead actors.
