Over 50 registered parties operate in India, most are either family-run or led by individuals (“BJP slams Bengal govt over ED team attack in Kolkata,” Jan.1, Gulf Today website).

The West Bengal and Delhi governments face intense scrutiny from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over corruption allegations. TMC activists believe they can physically confront ED officials to drive them away, while Congress has sought presidential rule in the state. Picture the irony as one within INDIA alliance seeks to oust another partner from power, yet collectively plans to challenge Modi in the 2024 general elections. Similar cases are progressing against opposition-ruled states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala also.These regional leaders show little interest in being corruption-free or sharing power with others. In essence, they confront an existential crisis, potentially paving the path for the BIP to emerge as the sole political party across India in the near future.
