The Dubai Misdemeanor Court fined an Asian woman Dhs50,000 for using a maid without a work permit and not abiding by the sponsorship transfer conditions.

The court also sentenced the maid to one month in jail to be followed by deportation and fined her Dhs10,000 for working for other than her sponsor and staying in the country illegally. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

According to the official documents, the Dubai Criminal Court earlier issued a verdict sentencing the maid to six months in jail to be followed by deportation and fining her Dhs35,000 for stealing jewels worth the same amount of the fine from her sponsor’s house.

The case dated back to April last year when an Asian woman reported to the police that she had been robbed by a maid she hired to work in her house without a work permit.

She stated that she discovered that gold bracelets and jewellery worth Dhs35,000 had disappeared from an iron safe inside her bedroom.

After checking the surveillance cameras in her house, she found that her maid, who had been working in her house for a month but left the house several days ago, had entered her bedroom, opened the iron safe and stole her jewels before she informed her that she was no more interested in working in her house, she said.

A policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives managed to locate the maid and arrest her. The team searched her bag and found a piece of the jewelry that she had stolen from her employer’s house.

On interrogation, the maid admitted that she had robbed her sponsor after being faced with the surveillance camera recordings.
