Negligent motorists caused horrific traffic accidents in the streets of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Police have said.

The Abu Dhabi Police warned of the dangers of not obeying traffic rules while driving in the streets.

The Police, in cooperation with the Follow-up and Control Center and within the "You Comment" initiative, broadcast a video of the dangers of stopping in the middle of the road and getting busy while driving.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police warned drivers of the dangers of stopping in the middle of the road for any reason, and urged them to head to the nearest exit to ensure the safety of road users.

The authorities called on drivers to leave a sufficient and safe distance and not to be distracted by other than the road to avoid sudden stops of vehicles without warning on the roads and during the flow of traffic on the internal and external roads.

The police warned drivers of the danger of being busy while driving using the mobile phones, and other behaviors that lead to distraction from the road and thus lead to traffic accidents.

Residents commented on the police’s video, blaming the minivan driver for the multi-vehicle accident.

Rony Thomas said, “The license should be suspended for those careless stops in the middle of the road. This driver did carelessly risked others lives in danger as only the wheel cup came off. Other drivers should be careful while driving and not tailgating.”

Joginder Singh Adhikari said, “Emergency stop should be on the right hand side only, the driver shall be held responsible for any loss that happened to others.”

Sooraj wrote, “This is where ongoing driving training becomes important. Drivers should be required to attend training every 2 to 3 years and shown such videos to improve awareness and safe driving practices.”

Abhay Adhikari said, “Government should take legal action for this kind of action.”

The police warned that motorists will be slapped with hefty fines for such irresponsible behaviours.
