The Abu Dhabi Police have confirmed that according to Law no. 5 for 2020 regarding impoundment of vehicles, traffic fines in excess of Dhs7,000 imposed on a vehicle must be paid in full; otherwise, the vehicle will be impounded until all fines are paid within a maximum of three months.

Failure to pay the fines will cause the vehicle to be sold in public auction, Abu Dhabi Police added. The police called on drivers to take advantage of an initiative to pay traffic fines in a one-year, interest-free installment plan in co-operation with five banks; namely, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Emirates Islamic Bank and Mashreq Bank.

They also called on drivers to benefit from the initiative of early payment of traffic fines: A discount of 35 per cent within two months from the date of the fine and a discount of 25 per cent within a year.
