The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an Asian duo to 3 years in imprisonment, followed by deportation for impersonating police officers and robbing a man in Dubai.

Court records point out that the defendants had broken into the victim’s apartment after midnight to kidnap and rob him of all his money.

During investigations, the victim testified saying, “I was about to sleep when two men suddenly broke in and introduced themselves as police officers. They asked me to accompany them to the police station.”

The victim defended himself indicating that he was a legal worker in the country and had not committed any illegal actions. However, the defendants covered his eyes with a medical mask and tied his hands using a plastic strap.

They dragged him out of the apartment and towards their vehicle, besides taking his phone and wallet with Dhs3,200 inside. The victim was driven to an unknown location in Deira Area, then told to unlock his phone by the two thieves.

“They asked me enter my bank account application, even though I stated that the account was empty,” he said. The defendants then began to beat him up, asking if he was wanted by police on any criminal charge. They drove him back to his residence and untied him.

Luckily, a nearby police patrol stopped while the victim was being released out of the car, and asked why the victim was in the company of the two defendants. The scared victim was thrilled about the officers who came to his rescue and immediately told them that he was kidnapped and robbed by the defendants who he thought they were police officers.

The officers headed towards the car to ask for identification and decided to search the defendants’ vehicle. One of the officers testified saying “I was surprised to find a picture of the victim while being tied up and blindfolded, besides finding a bag with 16 stacks of dollars.”

The defendants were taken to the police station and charged with assault, impersonating police officers and robbery.
