Saudi German Hospital Dubai conducts joint replacement surgery on a 55-year-old overweight patient

A 55-year-old female, overweight patient with pain in the right hip for the last 4 years. She visited several orthopedic surgeons at various hospitals in the UAE.
Initially, she weighed 148kg when she first visited. A full detail consultation was done in which the different treatment modalities were given. As she was overweight, Dr Mohammad Ashfaq advised appropriate management for this patient as he has expertise in treating obese patients in the UK.
He advised a weight reducing regime and referred her for bariatric surgery. She lost 30kgs in 6 months. However, her right hip pain deteriorated, and so a multidisciplinary team was formed from Cardiology, Anthesis and Orthopedic headed by Dr. Mohammed Ashfaq and proceeded for a right total hip joint replacement.
“Patient underwent hip joint replacement surgery and she began mobilising the following day. After 4 days of surgery the patient was discharged from the hospital in a very good health condition." Dr. Mohmmad Asfaq said.
