UAE Rulers of Emirates, dignitaries, officials and expatriates attended the funeral prayer of Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, son of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, at the King Faisal Mosque.

Sheikh Khalid was buried at the Al Jubail Cemetery.

The UAE announced a three-day mourning period since Tuesday; flags flew at half-mast.

Sheikh Khalid passed away on July 1 in London.

The Ministry of Presidential Affairs has mourned Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the son of Sheikh Sultan.

On Wednesday morning, police and security personnel directed mourners as well as regular traffic around King Faisal Mosque, its parking lot and surrounding streets.

Shaikh Khalid passed away in London on Monday and was buried in Jubail graveyard around 9am on Wednesday in Sharjah.

Condolences will be accepted at Al Bade’e Palace for three days after Asr (afternoon) prayer, which nowadays is held around 4pm.

The Ministry said, "President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourns with grief and sorrow, the death of Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the son of the Ruler of Sharjah, praying to Allah the Almighty to rest his soul in peace, and grant his family patience and solace."

According to the statement, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa ordered for the UAE flag to be flown at half-mast across the country, and declared a three-day mourning period.

Educated in Britain

Sheikh Khalid learned from the lessons of life and experiences that his father experienced. He followed his father in building a unique identity for the emirate that combined heritage, modernity, culture and science.

Sheikh Khalid was the chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council.

He took the responsibility to transform Sharjah's strategies and plans into reality.

Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi was a London-based fashion designer. He was born in Sharjah, UAE. He moved to the United Kingdom at the age of nine. He was educated at Tonbridge School, where he was awarded an art scholarship upon entry, and went on to read French and Spanish at University College London, subsequently completing a degree in Architectural Studies at the Association School of Architecture (AA).

It was here, learning the craft of designing buildings, that he found his true vocation: designing clothes. He moved to Central Saint Martins, winning a place on the college’s prestigious BA Womenswear course, and launching his label “Qasimi” Homme several years later in 2008.

His brand “Qasimi” is centred around the idea of an urban nomad. It was founded in 2016, the brand is built upon four pillars: architecture, colour, military and messaging.
