UAE clinch nine medals at Asian Karate Championships in Jordan

The UAE national karate teams concluded their participation in the 24th edition of the Asian Karate Championships for youth, juniors and Under-21 athletes, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with a haul of nine medals: two gold and seven bronze.

The UAE’s medal tally included a gold medal for Karim Rami in the Under-21 individual kata, and a gold medal for Habiba Yasser in the individual kumite under 48kg. Habiba also won a bronze medal in the women’s individual kata.

Khalifa Al Hajaj secured bronze in the junior men’s individual kumite under 68kg, while Bakhit Ahmed won bronze in the junior men’s individual kumite under 55kg.

Razan Mahyoob claimed two bronze medals, in the junior girls’ individual kata and the junior girls’ individual kumite under 47kg. Sultan Mohammed won bronze in the junior boys’ individual kumite under 52kg, while Mohammed Al Kindi secured bronze in the junior boys’ individual kumite under 61kg.

Major General (Ret.) Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razooqi, President of the UAE and Asian Karate Federations and Vice President of the International Karate Federation, said the UAE’s achievement was made possible by the wise leadership’s support for the youth and sports sector.

He congratulated the medal winners on their outstanding results and praised the tremendous efforts of the administrative, technical and medical teams.

He stressed that winning nine medals at an Asian championship represents a highly impressive achievement and is consistent with the federation’s approach, plans and programmes aimed at developing national teams across different age groups so that they can serve as a genuine pipeline for strengthening the senior national team.

Razooqi also praised the efforts of the UAE’s clubs in nurturing and developing talented young male and female athletes.
