Inaugural Union Wrestling Cup kicks off at Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Arena on Jan.24

Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Wrestling Federation is pleased to announce the inaugural Union Wrestling Cup, scheduled to take place on Jan.24 - 25 at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City.

This first-of-its-kind event will bring together over 300 athletes, competing across various rankings and divisions, all vying for medals. Importantly, this marks the first wrestling competition organized by the Federation since its recent establishment.

The two-day event, a testament to the federation's commitment to fostering a new generation of wrestling talent in the UAE, places a strong emphasis on youth empowerment and development.

It is open to participants of all nationalities, designed to cater to aspiring young athletes. The championship is significant in promoting the importance of wrestling in enhancing physical fitness and mental health, emphasizing its role as an integral part of ancient Emirati traditions and its great significance at the level of Olympic tournaments.

Earlier last year, Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the General Authority of Sports and First Deputy President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, had issued the Resolution No.5 for 2022 to appoint a new board for the UAE Wrestling Federation for the electoral term 2020-2024.

The board is chaired by Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, and included the membership of Al Sayed Abdel Fattah El Sayed Mansour Sharaf, Sheikh Hamdan bin Saeed bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Talal Mustafa Abu Bakr Abdullah Al Hashimi, Saif Salem Khalifa Salloum Al Rashdi, Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Saeed Al Bateh Al Nuaimi, Dr. Ziyad Amir Ahmed Saleh, Moza Issa Rashid Obaid Al Ali, and Sultan Muhammad Sultan Al Ketbi.

Union Wrestling Cup is the marks the first event if the federation and aligns with its vision to promote the sport and strengthen its local and international stature, as well as its objectives and strategic plan to ensure that the widest segment of society have access to practice wrestling.
