Organised by the UAE Wrestling Federation, the first-of-its-kind event showcased intense competitions across Motaraha and freestyle wrestling categories, with Fujairah Martial Arts Club crowned champions in the latter.

Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the UAE Wrestling Federation, crowned the winners after the conclusion of the competitions. The second day of competitions was also graced by the presence of distinguished personalities, including Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office; Saleh Mohamed Saleh Al Geziry, the Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Hamdan Bin Saeed Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Secretary-General of the UAE Wrestling Federation; and Nenad Lalovic, the President of United World Wrestling (UWW).

The competitions for the freestyle wrestling Under-17 division and open weight (above 85) in Motaraha were held on the second day, which was marked by fierce competition. Fujairah Martial Arts Club secured the top position in the freestyle division medal rankings. Following closely, Sharjah Self Defense claimed the second spot and Khorfakkan Club secured the third position.

In the Motaraha competition, Abdullah Ahmed Al Hashemi claimed the first-place title, displaying exceptional prowess, while Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Haj secured the second position, and Faisal Zaid Al Shehhi earned the third spot.

Talal Al Hashemi, a board member of the UAE Wrestling Federation, said: “The Union Wrestling Cup witnessed wonderful technical proficiency and high levels of participation from independent athletes, private clubs, and government clubs.

“This marks a significant qualitative shift in the sport of wrestling in the near future. Notably, this accomplishment aligns with the Federation’s strategy aimed at reshaping the landscape of wrestling in the country.”

He added, “We intend to promote the sport in schools and clubs, anticipating the emergence of Emirati champions who will soon represent the UAE in regional and international tournaments, ultimately aiming for the Olympics. We extend our best wishes to all participants and eagerly anticipate their future success. We also look forward to their involvement in other tournaments organised by the UAE Wrestling Federation.”

Sultan Khameis of Fujairah Club, who won gold in the Under 110 division, said: “I am delighted with this victory, achieved through rigorous training and tremendous efforts from myself, the coaches, and the club staff. I express my gratitude to the UAE Wrestling Federation for providing us with the opportunity to participate in a highly competitive and distinguished state-level tournament.”

Abdullah Ahmed Al Hashemi also expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I am delighted to achieve success in Motaraha, particularly as it is a traditional sport that embodies our original Emirati customs. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the UAE Wrestling Federation for orchestrating this tournament and elevating it to such an impressive level.”

Elsewhere, Pouya Rahmani, the well-known Iranian heavyweight wrestler, and coach of the Team Nogueira Martial Arts and Fitness Academy, recently achieved a decisive victory in the grappling match as part of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship (ADXC 2) held in the same Arena, said: “My team, composed of five players, saw two members securing gold medals. I am excited to impart my knowledge and skills to the next generation. Sports play a central role in my life, with the majority of my day dedicated to refining my skills and training players. My motivation stems from the desire to win championships and share my experiences with younger athletes, nurturing champions and guiding them towards achievements that bring pride to their families.”

The remarkable efforts made by the UAE Wrestling Federation to ensure the success of the tournament were evident in the distinguished organizational level of the Union Wrestling Cup. It received widespread praise from international players and champions, including UFC champions Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev, further highlighting the Federation's commitment.
