Amateurs gear up for EGF Order of Merit C’ship

The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Order of Merit final results have been calculated. Now the amateur golfers across the UAE will take the course starting tomorrow at Al Ain Equestrian Golf and Shooting for the newly imposed World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) EGF Order of Merit Championship.

The EGF Order of Merit Championship is a three-day event for the Men’s and Ladies Divisions and a two-day event for the Junior Division that will take place on April 18– 20 at Al Ain Equestrian Golf and Shooting Club.

The fields will be composed of the top supporters of men’s and ladies’ qualifying rounds and top-placed Juniors in EGF Order of Merit Season.

The EGF Order of Merit Men’s Division, played in a gross format, was composed of 12 events.

These two-day, 36-hole, events proved to deliver a test for every golfer participating.

With 205 points for the season, Steven Kelbrick was the 2018 – 2019 EGF Order of Merit Men’s Division Champion. Kelbrick dominated the season, with 11 events played and four-second place finishes in the UAE Men’s Opens. Kelbrick will be the clear favorite heading into this weekend’s Order of Merit Championship, as he will be looking to end on a high note with a victory.

Finishing as the runner-up in the EGF Order of Merit Men’s Division was UAE National Team Member Ahmed Skaik with 148 points. Skaik played in eight events over the season with four top-five finishes. Taking the Third Place position was Zi Ang Xu. Zi Ang Xu played seven events, winning two while collecting 144 points.

In the EGF Order of Merit Ladies Division there are two different scoring categories, Gross and Net. The Net category includes the calculation of the golfers’ handicap. The ladies started the season on November 10th, 2018 and finished on March 9. There were a total of nine, one-day, 18-hole, events throughout the season. Winning the EGF Order of Merit Ladies Gross Category was Hyeoni Kang. Kang played in all nine Order of Merit events, winning seven out of nine, collecting 258 points. Kang was also the Runner-Up in the Net Category with 178.6 points. Look for Kang to be a force during the Championship this weekend, as she will be looking to add to the number of wins this season.

Kate Bibby took the runner-up position in the Gross Category with 187.5 points. Kate had three Second Place finishes over the nine events. Wrapping up the Ladies Gross Category, Sakura Kawakami won the Third Place prize in with 179 points.

In the Ladies Net Category, Liang Wei Liu was the 2018-19 winner with 184 points. With Hyeonji Kang taking second for the season, Jamie Roslyn Camero finished third in the Net Division with 163.8 points.

The EGF Order of Merit Junior Divisions consists of two divisions, and two categories, for each division. Both, Boys and Girls Junior Divisions had a Gross and Net Category. The season started on Oct.27, 2018 and ended on March 30. Each division was played over a total of 10, one-day, 18-hole, tournaments.  

Winning the EGF OOM Boys Gross Category with 210 points was Jay Mullane. Jay played in all 10 events with four-second place finishes. Jay also played in three Men’s Division event.

Alexander Hedes took Second Place in both the Gross and Net Categories. Hedes collected 189 points in the Gross Category and 145.8 points in the Net Category.
