Italy is determined to close a deal to save its ailing flag carrier Alitalia on Monday, with infrastructure group Atlantia seen as a possible investor, Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio said.
Alitalia’s rescue hopes received a boost with signs that Lufthansa could take a stake in the Italian carrier, while Rome agreed to a 350 million euro ($389 million) bridging loan to ease immediate cash worries.
Italy will not pump more public money into Alitalia, Industry Minister Stefano Patuanelli said on Saturday, warning that the troubled airline could shut down by mid-2020 without a buyer.
