His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received the United States Ambassador to the UAE, John Rakolta Jr., on Thursday, in the presence of Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
Sharjah in known the world over for its cultural superiority and for the giant strides the emirate is taking in fostering reading at the regional and international levels. Bestowed with the honour of a World Book Capital, it truly lived up to its billings (“Sharjah wraps up achievement-filled year-long stint as World Book Capital, hands over title to Kuala Lumpur,” April 22, Gulf Today).
Sheikha Bodour said, “This global pandemic is yet another reminder of our shared humanity… We are united by our love for books and reading.”
Emirati author from Abu Dhabi Sheikha Salama Bint Hazza Al Nahyan is an inspiration to all of us. Her approach towards her craft is rooted in Emirati culture and heritage.
Co-chairing the event with Richard Charkin, founder of Mensch Publishing, the IPA President addressed the occasion of the IPA’s 125th anniversary as a major milestone to the publishers.
The book launch event featured a reading by Bodour Al Qasimi which offered SCRF’s young visitors an opportunity to interact with the author who took them on a journey to cities full of books.
This meeting marked Sheikha Bodour’s first official engagement since she was conferred her new position at IPA. At the meeting, she stressed that challenges and opportunities in the Arab publishing landscape will remain key points on IPA agenda for the next couple of years.
