In a rare gesture, a kidney swap was successfully conducted between a Hindu family from Bihar and a Muslim family from Kashmir at a private hospital near Chandigarh.
For the six consecutive year, the Friends of Kidney Patients Association, FKPA, one of the health support associations at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SCFA, organized the “Water Campaign” with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of drinking adequate amounts of water for maintaining kidney health.
In addition to deaths resulting from organ failure in chronic kidney disease, impaired kidney function also puts individuals at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease, the researchers said.
Presently serving at the Lahore General Hospital in Lahore, Dr Fawad was allegedly notorious for running an organ trade network in various parts of Punjab, an official said. He said the team returned when it learnt that Dr Fawad had already left his home to avoid arrest.
