State-owned Rossiya airline said the crew had registered the “incorrect operation of the engine control sensor” on a cargo flight from Hong Kong to Madrid and that they “decided to make an emergency landing in Moscow.”
According to the local media, the anonymous passenger was heading to his home, last Tuesday, to see his pregnant wife, on board the Cessna plane on a flight from the Bahamas to Florida, before starting the dramatic incident, which was described as a "miracle."
A senior official said there was an an indicator light malfunctioning that was responsible for the diversion. The aircraft however made a smooth landing in Karachi and passengers safely disembarked.
Footage from eyewitnesses showed the helicopter making an abrupt landing, hovering low over cars until it landed nearby at a downtown roundabout that had been vacated by police.
