Abu Dhabi introduces nominal fees for visitors to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque; prayer access remains free

In an effort to enrich the visitor experience and uphold the sustainability of the services at one of the most renowned religious and tourist sites worldwide, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) has instituted a nominal fee for those visiting the mosque for sightseeing purposes.

The administration assures that this measure does not compromise the mosque's role as a place of worship; entrance for participating in daily prayers, Friday prayers, and other religious activities will continue to be free for all Muslims.

Details of the visit fees

The SZGMC has outlined the fee structure as follows:

- UAE Residents (those with UAE ID cards): Dhs5 per person.

- Tourists and international visitors: Dhs10 per person.

- Organised tour groups (through tourism companies): Dhs8 per person.

Exemptions are in place for seniors aged 60 and over, as well as children, who will not be subject to these charges. The administration highlighted that these fees are primarily regulatory. They serve to efficiently manage the growing number of visitors throughout the year and to ensure that facilities remain clean and ready, supporting hospitality services and cultural education.

Entry for prayers always free of charge

The SZGMC places a strong emphasis on maintaining distinct pathways for worshippers and tourists. Muslims visiting for religious duties are never charged a fee, with dedicated entrances and paths in place to ensure they worship in peace and reverence.

Revised visiting hours

For tourists and visitors, the SZGMC has set the following hours:

Saturday to Thursday: Open continuously from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Friday: Split shifts are in effect, halting tourist visits during the Friday sermon and prayer times: Morning session: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, while evening session to be from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
