Dress for you

There seems to be no winning when it comes to how women are supposed to look at a certain age. This week we are taking a look at why young stars including Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner and Zendaya are often criticised for looking older than they really are.

Kaia, who is just 24, recently attracted comments after wearing a black midi dress and heels to the US Open, with people saying she looked much older than her age. But I don’t really understand the problem. She looked sophisticated and elegant, and surely at 24 she can dress however she wants.

It is interesting how differently famous women are judged depending on what they wear. Dress too maturely and they are accused of looking older. When they wear something young and playful they get accused of trying too hard to look younger. It really does feel like women can’t win.

Confidence, styling, hair and make-up can make someone appear older without them actually looking old. There is a big difference between the two. Personally, I think we put far too much emphasis on dressing for your age. Once you’re an adult, wear what you like and what makes you feel good. It really should be that simple.
