There’s something satisfying about watching a film written off as a failure eventually do well. This week we are taking a look at films which did not do well when they were released but went on to make up for it later.
Some films that are now considered classics were actually commercial disappointments when they were first released. “The Shawshank Redemption” struggled to attract audiences during its initial theatrical run, while “Children of Men” failed to make back its budget but later became one of the most highly regarded films of the 21st century. Even “It’s a Wonderful Life,” now considered a classic, struggled to find an audience when it was first released.
More recently, films such as “Babylon” have shown that even good reviews and an A-list cast don’t always mean success at the box office. Despite its ensemble cast including Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, the film failed to impress audiences in the cinema. Bad timing and poor marketing can both play a part in why a movie doesn’t do well.
