Summer binges

This summer’s television line-up offers a little bit of everything, from fantasy epics to crime thrillers, and passing time with a good TV show is the best way to beat the heat. This week we are taking a look at some of the best TV shows that are due for release over the next few months.

One of the most interesting new arrivals is “Lucky,” starring Anya Taylor-Joy. The actor has built a reputation for choosing distinctive projects and brings her trademark intensity to the role of a con artist whose life spirals out of control after a multimillion-dollar heist goes wrong. With the FBI and a crime boss in pursuit, it promises to be a fast-paced thriller and another hit for one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young actresses.

“Ride or Die” pairs Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer as best friends whose lives are upended when a long-hidden secret comes to light. The action comedy looks set to combine sharp humour with plenty of adventure, while giving the two charismatic actresses the chance to bounce off one another.

I know that superheroes aren’t everyone’s thing, but “Spider-Noir” offers a stylish twist on the genre. Nicolas Cage stars as a private investigator in an alternative 1930s New York who is drawn back into action after hanging up his mask. In terms of it being a visually striking series, this could be one of this season’s biggest hits.
