The summer movie season continues to expand with a mix of big franchises and independent titles. This week we are taking a look at the next batch of films we think are going to be a hit this summer spanning a variety of genres, including horror, drama, romance and science fiction.
“How to Rob a Bank” looks like it’s going to be a summer favourite judging by the ensemble cast and exciting plot. Directed by David Leitch, the action comedy stars Zoë Kravitz, alongside Nicholas Hoult and Anna Sawai. The film tells the story of a gang of bank robbers who use social media to document their successful heists which ends up attracting the attention of the police.
“The Dog Stars,” directed by Ridley Scott, offers a quieter contrast. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, it focuses on survival and human connection rather than scale, with performances from Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin anchoring the story. It’s a more restrained film in comparison to an otherwise busy summer line-up.
“Moana” fans will be delighted to see the return in live-action form, nearly a decade after the original. With Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui and Catherine Lagaʻaia stepping in as Moana, the film revisits a familiar story expanding it for a new audience while retaining the core elements that made it a success.
In other news this week, turn to our Fitness pages to read about how Jennifer Aniston stays fit.
