There’s been a surprising trend in television lately, and you may have noticed it. This week we look at how “bad” TV shows have become audience favourites, despite being slammed by critics and receiving multiple zero-star reviews.
One of these shows is “All’s Fair,” created by Ryan Murphy. Kim Kardashian leads an ensemble cast that includes Glenn Close, Naomi Watts and Sarah Paulson across nine episodes. I watched the series myself and can confirm it’s genuinely bad. That didn’t stop me from watching the entire season though, and that is exactly the trend I’m talking about. The show has already been renewed for a second sea- son. Bad press did not hurt it at all.
The romantic comedy “Emily in Paris” is another example that has received poor reviews, but continues to perform well. The story revolves around Emily, played by Lily Collins, an American living and working in Paris. Each season follows her awkward cultural clashes as she navigates friendships and relationships. The acting is weak and the plots are laughable, but a sixth season has already been confirmed.
