After months of anticipation and endless predictions, the Oscar nominations are finally in. This week we take a closer look at the full list of nominees, the films and performances that impressed the Academy, and the notable snubs that once again sparked debate across awards season.
History was made this year with the movie “Sinners” as it scooped up a total of 16 nominations. The horror film beat the previous record for the most nominations held by “All About Eve” (1950), “Titanic” (1997) and “La La Land” (2016). “Sinners” is nominated in most major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and individual acting nods for Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo.
Two of the most highly anticipated categories are Best Actor and Best Actress. In the Best Actor category, Timothée Chalamet has been nominated for his role in the film “Marty Supreme.” Chalamet has been on a roll this awards season and has already won a Golden Globe as well as the Critics’ Choice Award, making him a favourite to win the Oscar. In the Best Actress category, Jessie Buckley is a firm favourite for her performance in the film “Hamnet.”
