Founded in 1976, the recently concluded Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is one of the most prestigious festivals in the world of cinema. This week we are taking a look at some of the best films from the event that will be released over the next few months.
Mona Fastvold has already been nominated for an Oscar for co-writing “The Brutalist” and maybe this year she could be nominated for best director for the film “The Testament of Ann Lee.” The historical drama impressed audiences in Toronto with Amanda Seyfried starring as the founder of a religious sect in the 18th century. Interestingly, Seyfried received an Oscar nomination back in 2020 for her role in “Mank,” and critics are saying she could be in the running for another nod.
Another film shown at TIFF that’s generating Oscar buzz is “Hamnet.” Directed by Chloé Zhao and based on a 2020 novel by Maggie O’Farrell, the film tells the tale of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes as they deal with the loss of their 11-year-old son Hamnet. The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal and Joe Alwyn.
In other news this week, turn to our Beauty pages to read about “tech neck” and what to do about it. If you aren’t aware, “tech neck” is the term used to describe the vertical lines people develop on their neck as a result of being hunched over while using their devices. Correct posture is very important for preventing this problem.
