It saddens me to see the controversy that Harvard University is in. Harvard is one of the finest schools in the world. It has top-class professors. The infrastructure is modern. Harvard maintains high standards in the quality of education imparted to the students. It has excellent libraries. Students from across the world come to Harvard to study. They learn from the lectures and group-study sessions. However, they also learn to live and work with each other. At any time, students from over 5o countries, study together in the same classroom, without being prejudiced or racial. The alumni of the college continue to be in touch, even after graduation. Many become life-long friends. The professors too, keep in touch with the students and guide them.
My own time at Harvard was full of learning. It was the most intensive educational experience of my life. Harvard is also a challenging school, with complete focus on work. At times, it seemed I was studying at a monastery. Harvard also teaches its students to become leaders. Hence many Presidents, Prime Ministers and Chairmen of corporations are the alumni of the college. This itself, speaks about the traditions and values of the university.
I do hope that the current stalemate will conclude soon and students from across the world will be able to benefit from the education and values that global schools like Harvard provide. Education should be like oxygen; it should be available to everyone in this world, irrespective of nationality, religion or skin-colour.
