Most of the time when we watch a movie there is a clear message we take away with us. But that is not always the case and this week we are taking a look at some of the movies where audiences have completely missed the point.

“The Wolf of Wall Street,” directed by Martin Scorsese, came out back in 2013. The biographical crime film is based on Jordan Belfort’s 2007 memoir of the same name. It tells the real-life story of Belfort’s career as a stockbroker in New York City and how he swindled people. While the film clearly portrays the badness of the character, somehow audiences walked away with the idea that he was a hero. I don’t think it helped that it was Leonardo DiCaprio playing the lead as he is a fan favourite.

In 1982 the first installment of the “Rambo” franchise was released. Sylvester Stallone played Vietnam war veteran John Rambo who fights for survival after being hunted by the police. Apparently, audiences were supposed to be horrified by the violence but instead, they loved it. There were four more “Rambo” films released, the last one in 2019.
