This year has been a great one for movies with a slow and steady release of hit after hit claiming the box office. This week we take a look at some of the best films of the year from a wide variety of genres.

The romantic drama film “Past Lives” marked a directorial debut for Celine Song. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year and has received mainly positive reviews from critics. Starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro, the film tells the tale of two childhood friends following their two-decade relationship. The film has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture for a Drama.

I am sure that any list of best movies for this year will include the biographical thriller “Oppenheimer.” It has been quite the year for director Christopher Nolan and the cast of the movie which includes Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. to name a few. The film has been nominated for numerous awards including eight Golden Globes. Many Oscar nominations will no doubt be on the cards for this film.

In other news this week, turn to our Week’s Pick page to read about how owning a dog can change your life. Having a dog will help with your physical and mental health and can really change your life for the better. If having your own dog is difficult for your lifestyle, there are plenty of dog shelters around the country where you can volunteer and help out canines in need.
