It’s laudable work done by the respective governments of both India and Pakistan to evacuate over 180,000 people as Cyclone Biparjoy approaches their coastal areas (“India, Pakistan evacuate over 180,000 people as Cyclone Biparjoy approaches,” June 15, Gulf Today website).

People in India and Pakistan should pay attention to their respective governments regarding Cyclone Biparjoy updates and keep cooperating with the authorities to avoid any ill-fated incidents.  

According to the report, wind speeds and rainfall picked up on India’s Gujarat coast late on Thursday, officials said, after authorities there and in neighbouring Pakistan evacuated more than 180,000 people in the path of approaching Cyclone Biparjoy. Biparjoy, which means ‘disaster’ or ‘calamity’ in the Bengali language, was centred in the Arabian Sea 50 kilometres off Jakhau port in the western Indian state and 240km off Pakistan’s southern port of Karachi, weather officials said.

The government sources said that Cyclone Biparjoy is approaching coastal areas in both the countries and appealed to people to cooperate with the administration to shift people to safe places.
