Emily Ratajkowski

When you hear the words “girl code,” what do you think of? What comes to my mind is loyalty, kindness, support and other qualities along those lines when it comes to friendships of value. This week we are taking a look at how the term “girl code” has become twisted with today’s celebrity culture and has ended up pitting women against women.

During recent weeks, there has been plenty of media coverage of a little incident which took place on a street in Toyko involving model Emily Ratajkowski and singer Harry Styles. The pair were spotted together, embracing, and the footage went viral. It wasn’t just about that meeting, Styles had recently ended a relationship with actress Olivia Wilde, who also happens/happened to be Emily’s friend.

Discussion upon discussion took place all over social media following the encounter. Emily was accused of breaking “girl code” by getting involved with her “friend’s” ex-partner. But is that all “girl code” means? Or does it mean something way bigger than that? Also why wasn’t Styles accused of anything or blamed for breaking any code? There is definitely a whiff of misogyny in the air.

In other news this week, turn to our Fitness pages to read about how to get your children moving and keep them fit. There are many ways to get them fit while keeping it fun at the same time. The weather is still decent enough to get your children outside and enjoying the fresh air on their bikes or in the pool or beach.
