The 95th Academy Award nominations are finally out to the delight of film fans and critics alike. This week we are delving into the main categories and taking a look at the most predictable nominations as well as the more surprising ones.

Best Picture is obviously a huge category which draws much speculation and predictions every year. The comedy drama movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once” received the most nominations with a total of 11 including one for Best Picture. The film centres around the main character, played by Michelle Yeoh, who finds out she is able to connect with parallel universe versions of herself to save the multiverse. It sounds weird, doesn’t it? I still need to watch this one and see what all the hype is about.

Of course, “Avatar: The Way of Water” is also nominated for Best Picture as well as three other awards including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects and Best Production Design. Surprisingly there was no Best Director nod for James Cameron. The movie is good though, and worth watching after waiting so long for it to come out.

“Elvis” earned eight nominations, which I think were very much deserved. Actor Austin Butler does a good job as Elvis and I really enjoyed watching this one. He is up for Best Actor for his portrayal of the king of rock and roll. Butler has already won a few awards for the role including a Golden Globe which can be a good indicator of Academy Award winners.
