The acting world is a tough one to crack, and an even tougher one to stay relevant in. This week we are taking a look at some actors who don’t have the best reputations when it comes to their acting skills but continue to be popular anyway, usually based on one special performance or two.

Vanessa Hudgens found fame as a child actor on the popular “High School Musical” movies. While being incredibly popular with fans, the movies weren’t a favourite of critics and her career appeared stagnant after the franchise ended. However, Hudgens appears to have revived her career with her role in the Lin-Manuel Miranda 2021 musical “Tick, Tick… Boom!” which resulted in her being taken more seriously by critics.

Adam Sandler has gained a reputation of being the funny guy in not-the-best comedy movies. Sometimes Sandler shocks critics with his choice of roles though. For example, he showed his true potential in movies like “Punch Drunk Love” and “Uncut Gems.” I do not know why he prefers to act in comedies as opposed to taking on more serious roles which he is clearly good at.

Emma Watson was hugely popular as a child actor for her performances in the “Harry Potter” movies as Hogwarts student Hermione Granger. After they ended, her career seemed to nosedive. Critics assumed it was all over for Watson, a fate which awaits many child actors who gain massive fame when young. However, she showed great talent and impressed movie fans after her role in director Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring.”
