Bollywood had a mediocre year at the box office in 2019. In the first week of 2020, we take a look at all the upcoming movies that could, possibly, make it a far more interesting year for Hindi cinema.

When it comes to trends, things will mimic last year but on a larger scale. Big-budget remakes, sequels and biopics will be showing all year long. The next generation of stars will also be fighting to prove their worth against the older stars who can dominate big titles.

Actresses Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday and Janhvi Kapoor all have various releases due out this year. Being released on Valentine’s Day is the new romantic comedy Aaj Kal starring Khan opposite Kartik Aaryan. She also stars in the upcoming spinoff Coolie No.1 by director David Dhawan and also starring Varun Dhawan.

One of Bollywood’s most popular actresses Alia Bhatt will be starring in three releases this year, Ayan Mukherji’s Brahmastra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2. She was the highest paid actress in India in 2019, so there’s no doubt that the films will do well.
