Ramadan is just a few days away and we are all in preparation mode at this point. During this special time of the year, things can get a little stressful when planning Iftar, especially if you are working too. This week we have put together a simple meal guide to help you get started the healthy way.

Firstly, when it comes to drinks try to stay away from the fizzy stuff and go for the fresh stuff instead. Watermelon lemonade will go down a treat with anyone who is fasting. It is delicious and so simple to make. Add sugar or honey if it is not sweet enough.

For a salad with a special twist, go for chickpeas. This is fuss-free and can be served hot or cold. Follow our recipe for the most pleasing chickpea salad that will compliment any main meal. Another easy to make meal is chicken spaghetti with sautéed vegetables. With lots of different ways to add flavour, this dish will be a favourite with any of your Iftar guests. Be sure to let us know what recipes worked for you and what tweaks you made.

In other news this week, turn to our Health pages to read about the prevalence of sleep myths and how they could pose a serious risk to our health. The idea that someone can get by on five hours of sleep is a dangerous notion that can lead to long-term health issues. Another myth that people believe concerns dreams and how remembering them in the morning “is a sign of a good night’s sleep.” This simply is not true and can be a sign of disturbed sleep.
