During an urgent meeting chaired by President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace on Sunday morning, Egypt’s National Defence Council approved deploying Egyptian military forces to Saudi Arabia. This mission aims to safeguard the Kingdom's security and stability. The decision now awaits necessary constitutional approval from the Egyptian House of Representatives.
The meeting gathered key figures, including the Speaker of the House, the Prime Minister, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Chief of Staff, and the Ministers of Interior, Finance, and Foreign Affairs. Also present were the Director of the General Intelligence Service and commanders from the main military branches.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency explained that the council reviewed regional developments and noted the escalating tensions impacting Saudi Arabia. In response to these challenges, they made several decisions:
1. To express full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, based on the deep historical ties and strong bonds between the two nations, recognising that Saudi Arabia's national security is closely linked with that of Egypt and the broader Arab world.
2. To offer comprehensive support to Saudi Arabia to defend its security, maintain its territorial integrity, and protect important Islamic sites.
3. To enhance political and diplomatic efforts in collaboration with regional and international parties to reduce tensions and seek peaceful solutions to ongoing regional crises.
