The Criminal Court in Abu Dhabi found a teacher guilty of physically assaulting four students and sentenced him to two years in prison. Additionally, he will be deported from the country after serving his sentence and is required to pay court costs.
The incident took place in a classroom at a private school in Abu Dhabi, where the teacher beat-up the students, resulting in injuries that prevented them from managing their personal affairs for up to twenty days. The court's decision was based on the teacher's admission during investigations and in court, where he acknowledged the assault. He claimed his actions were an attempt to prevent chaos and disruption during the lesson and to improve the students' behavior.
The court upheld that footage from surveillance cameras substantiated the defendant's confessions, vividly capturing the violent and inhumane actions he inflicted upon students without any justification.
In its decision, the court highlighted that the assaults, which took place on school grounds during class hours, amounted to a breach of public order and safety due to the risks such behavior poses to individual stability and security. It stressed that maintaining public order serves to preserve the core values of society, safeguard individual well-being, and ensure adherence to the law principles that were directly contravened in this case.
Additionally, the court stated that the defendant's conduct constituted a blatant violation of laws and regulations. It also stressed the critical need for rigorous enforcement of the law to uphold societal security, protect individual rights, and prevent actions that endanger or disrupt the safety and harmony of people’s lives.
