One person was injured in a collision between two trucks after Global Village towards Sharjah, due to not maintaining a sufficient safe distance, according to Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police.
Bin Suwaidan added that the Command and Control Room received a report about the accident, and preliminary investigations showed that it occurred due to not adhering to a sufficient safe distance behind vehicles, which led to the collision.
The accident reportedly resulted in one person being injured, who was transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Bin Suwaidan pointed out that traffic accident experts immediately moved to the site and began inspection procedures and collecting technical evidence to determine the exact causes of the accident, while traffic patrols secured the accident site and regulated traffic flow to ensure the rapid arrival of ambulances and specialised teams.
Field teams also worked to remove damaged vehicles as quickly as possible to ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid congestion.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan warned of the danger of not maintaining the legal safe distance between vehicles, given the severe or fatal accidents it causes, stressing that statistics show that vehicle collisions resulting from not maintaining a safe distance are among the most common types of accidents. He noted that the Federal Traffic and Road Law stipulates a fine of Dhs400 for not maintaining a safe distance, in addition to 4 traffic points recorded against the offending driver.
He called on drivers to be cautious and attentive while driving, emphasising that adherence to traffic regulations not only protects the driver but also contributes to protecting all road users and achieving a safer and more sustainable traffic environment in the emirate.
Adhering to a safe distance is an essential element in preventive driving, which will preserve lives and property and reduce losses resulting from accidents, Bin Suwaidan added.
He explained that Dubai Police implement continuous awareness programmes targeting various segments of society, through field and electronic campaigns, to highlight the most important violations affecting traffic safety, such as speeding, distraction from the road, and not maintaining a sufficient distance between vehicles.
