Man ordered to pay Dhs30,000 for insulting a woman and damaging her car in UAE

The Al Ain Civil, Commercial, and Administrative Cases Court has ruled that a man must pay Dhs30,000 in compensation to a woman after he verbally abused her and caused significant damage to her vehicle, leaving it unusable due to flying gravel and sand.

The case arose when the woman, as the plaintiff, filed a lawsuit demanding Dhs60,000 in compensation from the defendant, along with coverage for court fees, expenses, and legal costs.

She argued that the defendant had verbally insulted her in her presence, though there were no witnesses to the incident. He also inflicted damage on her vehicle to such an extent that it could no longer be used. The defendant had already been convicted in a related criminal case. The plaintiff cited the emotional and material harm she endured as the basis for pursuing this legal claim.

The court determined that the defendant's liability had been clearly established. The complainant reported experiencing significant losses after her vehicle was damaged by flying gravel and sand caused by the defendant. Taking into account the specifics of the case and using its discretionary authority, the court assessed the material damages to her vehicle at Dhs10,000 as fair compensation for the incurred losses.

Additionally, the court addressed the moral harm suffered by the complainant. It concluded that the defendant's actions, particularly the verbal abuse, caused psychological distress to the complainant. The established causal connection between the defendant's fault and the resulting harm created a legal obligation for him to provide compensation. Considering the circumstances and applying its judgment, the court awarded her Dhs20,000 as compensation for this moral suffering.
