The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) clarified that the fasting hours at the beginning of Ramadan are about 12 hours and 46 minutes, gradually increasing to approximately 13 hours and 25 minutes by the end of the month, according to the local time in Abu Dhabi city.
During Ramadan this year, climate forecasts indicate generally moderate weather across most parts of the country, NCM indicated adding that moderately warm weather is expected during the day in the first half of the month, with a slight rise in temperatures in the second half, while the nights of the month will be moderate to nice and tend to be cool, especially during the late night and dawn hours, particularly in inland and mountainous areas.
The NCM indicated that the average maximum temperatures range between 26°C and 32°C, and some inland areas may record temperatures reaching 40°C during afternoon hours, while the average minimum temperatures range between 18°C and 21°C, and may sometimes drop to near or below zero in some mountainous and inland areas during early morning hours.
The report of the NCM also noted that the region is affected during this period by the extension of the Siberian high-pressure system, which sometimes weakens, allowing transient low-pressure systems to pass from the west or east and when these combine with a deep upper-level low-pressure system, the chances of cumulonimbus cloud formation and rainfall over the country increase.
The report added that long-term forecasts indicate that the expected rainfall amounts will be within or below normal averages, as the monthly average rainfall is about 8 mm, noting that the highest recorded rainfall amount within 24 hours during this period was 287.6 mm in Al Shuwaib area on March 9, 2016.
High humidity levels during night and early morning hours are expected by the NCM, making proper conditions for the formation of fog and light fog in some areas, with the average maximum relative humidity ranging between 70% and 85% at night and in the morning, while the minimum ranges between 20% and 35% during the day.
According to the NCM, winds will be southeasterly at night and in the morning, shifting to northwesterly during the afternoon and evening, may sometimes become active with deepening pressure systems, stirring dust in some areas, with average speed of about 13 km/h, while the highest wind gust recorded was 141 km/h in Jebel Mebreh on February 27, 2010.
