Musaed Al Hammadi, Director of Licensing Systems at Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced the launch of the 'Auto Check' initiative. This smart vehicle technical inspection system is powered by artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies. The initiative aims to improve road safety and speed up technical inspections, completing them in seconds with an accuracy rate of 99.8%.
Al Hammadi stated that the initiative forms part of the RTA's Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030, supporting the Dubai government's efforts to drive digital transformation and smart city development. He explained that the new system is fully automated, eliminating the need for human intervention and ensuring the highest levels of accuracy, transparency and convenience for customers.
360 Degrees
He added that the "Auto Check" system is based on an integrated, 360-degree inspection cell comprising four main units. The first unit examines the vehicle body by taking over 4,000 real-time images in order to detect any scratches or structural defects. The second unit inspects the tyres using laser technology to verify their integrity and tread depth. The third unit assesses the tyres' durability and year of manufacture from the sides. The fourth unit is an underbody scanner that detects any leaks or faults in the chassis and the lower parts of the vehicle.
He added that the smart system can complete a technical test in just 15 to 20 seconds, compared to 10 to 15 minutes for a traditional inspection. He added that the pilot phase of the initiative has begun at the Wasil Al Jaddaf Centre in the second quarter of 2025 and achieved impressive results in terms of performance accuracy and time savings.
Al Hammadi emphasised that the initiative marks a significant advancement in technical inspection services, empowering customers to perform self-inspections and renew their vehicle registration instantly, eliminating the need for employee intervention. These improvements will enhance quality of life, raise operational efficiency and help to achieve sustainable traffic safety on Dubai's roads.
