The “Red Carpet Walk” video, launched by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai in collaboration with Dubai Airports, has surpassed 2.4 billion views worldwide.
This innovative initiative, the first of its kind globally, allows travellers to pass through immigration in just seconds, without the need to present any travel documents.
The smart tunnel leverages AI and biometric systems to process up to 10 passengers simultaneously, pre-verifying their identities and enabling seamless, uninterrupted passage.
Special cases are automatically directed to manual review to ensure the highest security standards.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, emphasised that the service has received widespread praise from prominent figures and local and international officials, who described it as “a natural step for a city that knows no limits”.
Al Marri commended the efforts of the project team, led by Major General Obaid Bin Suroor, Deputy Director General, whose pivotal role was instrumental in its success. The tunnel reduces crossing time to 6-14 seconds per passenger, processing up to 10 people at once, compared to traditional methods that handle one traveller at a time.
This significantly cuts wait times and boosts the capacity of Dubai International Airport.
The launch of the “Red Carpet Walk” underscores Dubai’s commitment to cementing its leadership in smart travel solutions and enhancing the status of Dubai International Airport, which has maintained its position as the world’s busiest airport for international passengers for the 11th consecutive year.
This achievement is driven by the emirate’s adoption of innovative solutions and exceptional experiences for millions of travellers globally.
