A serious accident occurred opposite the metro station on Al Nahda Street in Dubai, when a vehicle swerved off its route and the driver lost control of the steering wheel before the vehicle rammed into a bus stop shelter.
Two people inside the shelter were hit by the vehicle, one critically and the other moderately wounded.
They were swiftly transferred to hospital to receive the necessary medical treatment.
Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic at Dubai Police, stated that patrols instantly rushed to the accident scene to cordon off the area and organise traffic, preventing congestion, as soon as the operations room received the report.
In addition, teams from the Traffic Management Department went to the scene to examine it and collect evidence, working alongside rescue teams and ambulances, which swiftly and efficiently transferred the injured to hospital.
The vehicle and the remains of the waiting shelter were also removed.
Bin Suwaidan explained that the accident had temporarily disrupted traffic on Al Nahda Street.
However, the patrols were able to divert vehicles to alternative routes, alleviating congestion and ensuring traffic flowed as smoothly as possible.
He emphasised the importance of drivers adhering to traffic laws and avoiding distractions, highlighting that sudden swerving is a leading cause of serious accidents.
He also urged drivers to carry out regular vehicle inspections to ensure that their vehicles are technically ready and that they and other road users are safe.
He added that the Dubai Police continue their awareness campaigns to promote traffic safety among drivers and reduce behaviours that could lead to serious accidents.
He further urged everyone to take responsibility and drive carefully, particularly in busy areas and around bus stops and metro stations.
