Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered an employee to return Dhs370,171 to a company where he was employed under an indefinite-term contract.
The employee had embezzled the amount and admitted to it via email, expressing his intention to repay it in installments.
In the details, the company filed a lawsuit against the employee, demanding he repay the aforementioned amount, along with legal interest and court fees.
The company submitted evidence, including an email screenshot and invoices, to support its claim. The company stated that the employee, who was under an indefinite-term contract, had embezzled the claimed amount. In an email, he admitted to the act and expressed his willingness to repay the amount in installments. The court clarified that the email serves as valid evidence, similar to a customary document, until proved otherwise, and holds legal value.
The court determined that the defendant's admission in the email confirms the company's claim. However, the defendant neither appeared in court nor provided evidence of repaying the amount. Therefore, he was obligated to return the funds to the company.
