Traffic patrols from the Dubai Police have caught a minibus carrying a large quantity of gas cylinders. The vehicle's seats had been removed to make space for them, which is a dangerous and illegal practice.
Brigadier Jumaa Bin Suwaidan, the Acting Director of the General Traffic Department, stated that the vehicle had been monitored during an inspection campaign that was being conducted in Al Quoz Industrial Area.
The inspection revealed a significant number of cylinders stored inside the vehicle.
This poses a considerable risk to drivers and other road users in the event of a collision, leak, or unsafe storage, as this could lead to an explosion or fire.
He also stated that the inspection teams had taken immediate action to seize and impound the vehicle, referring its driver to the relevant authorities for legal action.
He stressed that the Dubai Police attach the utmost importance to monitoring dangerous behaviours that threaten road and societal safety, through increasing surveillance on internal and external roads and implementing ongoing traffic campaigns to apprehend offenders.
He urged drivers to adhere to traffic laws and regulations, and to refrain from loading vehicles with hazardous materials, stressing that such acts are crimes punishable by law and could cause disasters that threaten individuals' and society's lives.
Any suspicious activity or dangerous driving must be reported through the 'We Are All Police' service, either by calling 901 or via the Dubai Police smart app, he added.
He also emphasised that community awareness and positive collaboration are key to improving traffic safety and security on the emirate's roads.
