Dubai: The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) has announced the AI powered 'Red Carpet Walkway' will be available soon in the arrivals hall at Dubai Airport.
This initiative highlights the emirate's pioneering role in adopting cutting-edge technology within the aviation industry, further establishing Dubai as a premier global travel destination.
Brigadier Waleed Ahmed Saeed, Acting Assistant Director General for Airports at GDRFA, revealed that the new corridor is the first of its kind in the world, combining the highest security standards with the latest artificial intelligence and biometric identification technologies.
He further explained that the system uses advanced smart cameras to recognise facial and iris prints, linking them directly to travellers' data in Dubai Airports' systems.
This allows passengers to pass through in just six seconds without having to stop or present any travel documents.
The Brigadier General pointed out that the corridor enables entire families or groups of people to pass through simultaneously, ensuring greater flexibility of movement and enhancing the travel experience.
He emphasised that this step would help reduce waiting times, increase the airport's capacity and maintain the highest standards of safety and accuracy.
He added that the GDRFA is considering expanding the scheme to other ports in the country. This aligns with the vision of the wise leadership and the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, serving the country's aspirations to provide innovative services that take the traveller experience to new heights.
Brigadier Waleed Ahmed Saeed pointed out that the inauguration of the Red Carpet Walkway demonstrates Dubai's commitment to improving government services. This initiative is said to provide a more efficient and streamlined travel experience for international travellers while ensuring the highest security and safety standards.
The project demonstrates a significant step forward in Dubai's adoption of innovative solutions and reinforces its position as a leading international player in the field of artificial intelligence applications.
He also noted that this project complements Dubai's efforts to launch initiatives that reinforce the efficiency of the airport sector, thereby strengthening Dubai Airports' position as one of the world's most distinguished and innovative airports for passenger services. This aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and Dubai Vision 2030, which seek to establish Dubai as the world's best city for living, working and travelling.
