Dubai Misdemeanor Court fined an Asian Dhs10,000 for driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs and hitting the wall of a beauty salon and destroying others’ property.
The defendant was also banned for two years from transferring or depositing any funds for others, either directly or through others, without permission from the Central Bank of the UAE in co-ordination with the Ministry of Interior.
In addition, the defendant’s driving licence was suspended for three months from the date the verdict became final.
The case dated back to February when a report was received on a serious accident in Al Qusais area in Dubai.
A policeman stated that he moved to the scene of the accident where he saw the defendant’s vehicle stopping after it had hit a beauty salon and five vehicles that happened to be nearby.
The policeman added in the interrogations that he suspected because he was slurring his words though no smell of alcoholic beverages was emitting from him. He was arrested accordingly and a sample of his blood was taken and sent to Dubai Police’s forensic laboratory.
The forensic laboratory report revealed that the sample contained methamphetamine, amphetamine and pregabalin, which are listed in schedules 5 and 8 of the Federal Law on Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances and its amendments.
On interrogation, the defendant admitted that he drove the vehicle under the influence of drugs, without taking into account the road conditions and the necessary precautions while driving.
As he was tailgating, he hit the wall of a beauty salon and destroyed others’ property, he added.
