Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), has carried out an intensive inspection campaign targeting jet ski users, resulting in issuing 431 fines and the impoundment of 41 non-compliant jet skis.
Sheikh Dr Saeed Bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of DMA, stated: “The collaborative efforts between regulatory entities reflect our strategic vision of positioning Dubai as a global model for maritime safety. This initiative underscores our commitment to providing a secure and sustainable environment for all sea users, thereby supporting economic growth and strengthening Dubai’s reputation as a leading global maritime hub.”
He added, “The safety of all marine users remains a top priority. We continue to enhance regulatory frameworks and adopt advanced technologies to ensure full compliance with maritime laws, while also fostering a culture of responsibility among sea-goers. Cooperation between regulatory and awareness bodies is key to creating a safer and more sustainable maritime environment in Dubai.”
Brigadier Dr Hassan Suhail, Director of the Ports Police Station, explained that the campaign aimed to improve maritime safety, reduce injuries caused by reckless driving, and clamp down on violations to curb dangerous behaviours.
The campaign also sought to boost the sense of security and reinforce public confidence in the police’s presence across marine zones.
Brigadier Suhail highlighted that the recorded violations included expired jet ski licences, entry into restricted areas such as swimming zones and hotel beaches, non-compliance with permitted usage hours, failure to wear life jackets, underage operation of watercraft, and overloading.
He further detailed the associated penalties:
• Operating a jet ski with an expired licence: Dhs1,000
• Failure to wear a life jacket or helmet: Dhs1,000
• Disturbing or harassing others: Dhs2,000
• Non-compliance with designated marine sports areas: Dhs1,000
Additional violations were recorded across several coastal areas of the emirate.
Brigadier Suhail affirmed the readiness of Dubai Police’s maritime security patrols to safeguard navigation and detect violations, along with the 24/7 preparedness of marine rescue units to handle emergencies and ensure public safety and well-being.
Dubai Police and DMA jointly urged all jet ski users to comply with maritime regulations, ensure safety equipment such as life jackets is on board, conduct regular maintenance checks, and avoid approaching private or tourist vessels.
Riders must also adhere to speed limits of 5 to 7 nautical miles and avoid overloading their jet skis.
Owners were further advised to regularly inspect their watercraft, monitor weather conditions before going out to sea, and make use of the “Sail Safely” service available on the Dubai Police smart app for quick emergency response. In urgent situations, the public is encouraged to call 999.
