The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast the formation of cumulus clouds in the east, which could bring rain on Thursday and Friday. Dust-raising winds are expected to continue until Sunday, the NCM added.
An extension of a weak surface low-pressure system from the east may affect the country, accompanied by a weak low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, the NCM says.
On Wednesday, various areas in the northern emirates experienced light to heavy rain. Shoka, Wadi Tawa and Al Manei in Ras Al Khaimah were affected, as were the Khorfakkan-to-Shees road and Wadi Al Helo in Sharjah, and Masfout on the Hatta road. Small hailstones also fell in Wadi Al Ajili and Wadi Al Qour.
In addition, various coastal and inland areas of the country experienced dust-raising winds on Wednesday morning,, leading to horizontal visibility falling to less than 1,000 metres between 8:45 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The NCM urged everyone to follow its bulletins and reports, and to refrain from spreading rumours. During dust storms, avoid direct exposure to dust and vegetation obstructions, exercise caution and follow safety rules while driving, close doors and windows to prevent dust from entering buildings, and followweather bulletins issued by official authorities.
It expects clear to partly cloudy weather on Thursday, with the possibility of cumulus clouds forming, especially in the east in the afternoon. These may be accompanied by rain. Winds will be light to moderate in speed, sometimes active during the day and causing dust. They will be southeasterly, changing to northwesterly, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h, reaching up to 40 km/h. The sea will be calm in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
On Friday, the weather is expected to be clear to partly cloudy. Cumulus clouds may form in the east and south in the afternoon, possibly accompanied by scattered rain.
