Sharjah identifies traffic violations that are excluded from 35% fine waiver plan

The Sharjah Executive Council has identified the traffic violations that are exempted from the discount that apply to regular violations.

The council, on Tuesday, issued a resolution that regulates the exemption rate for traffic violations in the Emirate of Sharjah. Traffic offenders will have 35% of their fine waived if they pay it within 60 days of committing the offence.

The discount does not apply to the critical violations, according to Colonel Abdulrahman Mohammed Khater, Deputy Director of the Security Media Department at Sharjah Police.

In his statement to the "Direct Line" programme, Colonel Khater explained that the decision issued by the SEC concerning the regulation of traffic violation exemptions in the emirate excludes critical traffic violations from any exemptions.

He explained that the violations that are classified as critical include:

- Driving at excessive speeds.

- Driving recklessly in a way that poses safety road users and property to danger.

- Failing to stick to rules of driving trucks

- Pedestrians crossing the road in the wrong places.

- Failing to abide by traffic lights.

- Stopping in the middle of the road for no reason.

- Using mobile phone while driving.

Previously, these violations were subject to a deduction. However, it should be noted that, at present, significant violations are not subject to the aforementioned cut.

The list was expanded in the latest decision due to traffic analysis, which identified violations directly related to traffic accidents. Consequently, these violations were exempted from the aforementioned discount.
